Welcome
Every project starts at Welcome. New Novel… asks where to keep the book, and names it for its file. The sample novel is there too, a fresh copy each time the app starts, to explore and to write in freely.
Once you’re writing, Welcome shows, quietly, how the writing has gone: the words written today, the last seven days, and every word since you began. Nothing counts down, and nothing breaks: a day off is only a day off.
Several books, one world
A project can hold several books that share their characters and their world: a series, its prequels and spinoffs, any books set in one world. New Book in This Project… (in the menu under the book’s title) adds one, set as the open one is, with its own first chapter.
Each book keeps its own manuscript, plotlines, Book Format, versions, and exports. The characters, their groups, the world, and the connections between them are the project’s, the same in every book: edit someone in one book and they’re edited in all of them.
Only the open book is loaded. The menu under the book’s title switches between them, opening each where you left it, and a character’s page says which books they’re in.
Nothing about books until there’s a second
A project of one book is simply a novel: nothing about books shows until you add another. With a second book, the project gets a name of its own, the series’ or the world’s, and its file is named for it.
